Patients require a clinical-led consultation with a Consultant Dermatologist who specialises in hair loss and scalp conditions. The Dermatologist will confirm the diagnosis of alopecia areata and discuss the suitable treatment options which may include JAK inhibitors. If JAK inhibitors are identified as the most suitable form of treatment, the medication takes the form of oral tablets which are taken on a daily basis. Response time for the treatment takes on average 3-6 months.
Monitoring blood tests are taken prior to commencing treatment and while on treatment.

Side effects of JAK inhibitors include stomach upset, chest and skin infections and potential issues with the liver function, Mild skin and upper respiratory tract infections.
