Dr Nicola Clayton is a British-trained Consultant Dermatologist with a special interest in hair loss and scalp conditions. Her NHS Consultant post is at West Middlesex University Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she treats adults and paediatric patients with a wide range of general dermatological diseases.

Hair and scalp: hair loss including alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness and female hair loss), folliculitis, scalp psoriasis and scarring alopecia, with clinical hair photography used to monitor treatment.

General dermatology: acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancer, hidradenitis suppurativa, cutaneous sarcoidosis and hyperhidrosis.

Diagnostics and procedures: mole checks, skin biopsies and skin cancer surgery, cryotherapy, steroid injections and minor surgery.

Dr Clayton is recognised by most major UK private heath insurers. Dr Clayton does not see WPA or Vitality patients. WPA and Vitality patients will need to be self-paying to see Dr Nicola Clayton.

Education and Training

Dr Clayton trained at the University of Bristol Medical School, where she gained a BSc in Bioethics before her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. She transferred to London for postgraduate training, primarily at University College Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, and completed her higher specialty training in Dermatology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Barts Health NHS Trust and the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

In 2012 she was awarded the British Association of Dermatologists study fellowship, which funded a six-month hair fellowship at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology with Dr Catherine Stefanato, with a focus on histopathology. She has presented her work at the World Congress for Hair Research, the London Histopathology Symposium and the American Society of Dermatopathology annual meeting.
